Hardship loan fund

A new fund is offering extra financial support to tenants who are struggling to pay their rent due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Tenant Hardship Loan Fund, from the Scottish Government, offers interest-free loans to social housing and private sector tenants who are unable to access other support for their housing costs.

It provides short-term support for tenants to help them manage rent arrears.

Tenants can apply for a loan to cover nine months of rent. This can include three months of future rent payments.

The loan will be repaid over five years.  It’s only available to people who have incurred rent arrears since 1 January 2020.
