Safety assessments

The Scottish Government has announced homeowners whose flats have external cladding will be offered a free safety assessment to determine if material need removed.

The Scottish Government expects the majority of inspections will show the building is safe, giving peace of mind to homeowners.

If problems are identified, the assessment will help to identify the scale of funding needed to take necessary remedial work.

A single building assessment will be carried out on a whole building rather than individual flats.

This will benefit affected buyers and sellers who currently have to pay for an External Wall System (EWS1) report on their individual property.

You can find out more about the new safety assessments on the Scottish Government website at Free safety assessments for homeowners.

A question and answers page is also available on the Scottish Government website at Mortgage Lending and Cladding Q&A.
