How to apply

It is quick and easy to rent a home from Lowther. Follow these simple steps.

Step 1:

Check out our available properties for let on MyHousing or Rightmove.

Before you can start an application, you will need to sign up for an online account. If you already have an online account with us, you can log in here.

Step 2:

If you don't have a live Lowther application you will need to create one. Please make sure you choose the option for “I want to apply for a Lowther home” from the drop-down menu in the “My reason for applying” section.

Log in to your online account and view the available properties.

  • Make sure your application has accurate and up to date information in your online account.
  • Make sure all supporting documentation is uploaded for the last three months.
  • ‘Express interest’ in any property you are interested in through the property advert in My Housing, this will automatically send your application to the Lowther team with supporting documents that you have added to your online account
  • Our letting agents will assess your application and supporting documents, including credit and reference checks

Step 3:

You will be advised if you are successful or not.

Step 4:

Successful – a viewing will be scheduled, if the property is tenanted, we will contact the tenant to ask if they can give access for a viewing.  Move in date will also be discussed.

Unsuccessful - you will be advised why you are unsuccessful. We reserve properties on a first-come first-served basis, so you may just have missed out. You can then apply for another property you may have seen.

If you are rejected based on affordability you have to wait three months before reapplying to allow you to demonstrate a change in your circumstances.

Step 5

Viewing is carried out and the applicant makes a decision on if they wish to go ahead with the property.

Step 6

Pro rata rent and deposit is taken before meeting the Lowther Agent at the property. We will also issue the tenancy agreement, inventory and other documents by email.  The agent will then meet you at the property to hand over the keys - this is the day the tenancy will start.

You will also be signed up for our online services and a Direct Debit put in place for your rent to be paid on the 1st of the month going forward.

When you become a Lowther customer, we will take a deposit, equivalent to one month's rent plus £100. As long as your account is up to date, you don’t have any outstanding debt due to us and your property is left in a suitable condition, your deposit will be returned to you.
